'MUSIC/SAFETY PERSON
⦁ Please arrive at least 10 minutes before your shift starts.
⦁ Assure that the bathrooms are unlocked and clean for the skaters to use. Scan the players benches to make sure
⦁ Retrieve the music box and first aid kit from the coaches room or coaches and plug it in and test the music to make sure it is working before the session starts.
⦁ At least 5 minutes before the skaters go on the ice scan the players benches to make sure they look clean. Check for spit or water that has been spit out on the floor and that there is a garbage can in there for kleenex. If the box is not clean inform the coaches and help to find a rink attendant to sanitize the box
⦁ During the session scan the ice to make sure skaters are acting safely inform the coach if you see an issue you feel needs attention.
⦁ If there is an injury come to the side of the ice to see if the Coach needs assistance. You may be asked to sit with the skater until they feel better or parents arrive.
⦁Watch for skaters going to the washroom and remind them to sanitize hands upon their return. Younger skaters may need help opening/closing doors to get on and off the ice.
⦁The Music Chair should put a laminated schedule in the music box tote. This will help to guide you with what music to play.
⦁ Stroking and Skills sessions would just be a shuffle of the stroking list unless the coaches ask otherwise.
⦁ Dance has TWO PLAYLISTS (Dance and Contemporary Dance). You should play various dances depending on the skaters level unless the coach asks otherwise.
⦁ When FREESKATE starts, give the skaters about 5 minutes of stroking music to warm up. After that, start playing the skaters programs one at a time. Play about 5 seconds of the program, wait for the skater to get ready and then once they are set you can start their song.
⦁ If a skater is in a private lesson you can skip their music but try to play it once they are finished.
⦁ Most skaters have two programs so once you have played everyone's music you can go back and start playing their second program. Once everyone has had their music you can start playing the first programs again.
⦁ Skaters CAN NOT refuse their program. If a skater refuses their program please inform the coach.
⦁ Coaches may request a skater's program. If this happens, let the current program play out and then put the request on once the skater is in position.
